Leaders at Dept. of Veterans Affairs Honored for Bridging Health and Legal Services for Veterans
William F. Russo and Dr. Rishi Manchanda from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) were honored by the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership (NCMLP) on Friday, April 11, 2014, for their work to improve the health of veterans by bridging health and legal services. The awards were presented at the annual MLP Summit in Seattle, Washington.
24 Civil Legal Aid Leaders Selected for Inaugural Fellowship to Build Healthcare Expertise, Led by NCMLP & NLADA
Thanks to generous support from the Public Welfare Foundation, the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership at the George Washington University, and the National Legal Aid and Defender Association announced a new fellowship today designed to build healthcare expertise in the legal aid community. Twenty-four senior level staff from legal aid agencies in 21 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico were selected as inaugural Fellows.
Learning Network Bridges Gap Between Legal Needs, Health Needs for Kids
Six childrenβs hospitals and seven legal organizations met in Bentonville, Arkansas today to kick off Better Team for Child Health. This childrenβs hospital learning network will study the impact of legal care on child health and develop recommendations on how to better build an interprofessional healthcare team that responds to the complex social and health-harming legal needs of children. Itβs being convened by The Advisory Board Company, the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership at the George Washington University, and Walmart.

Three awards were given during the 8th annual Medical-Legal Partnership Summit on Friday, April 12, 2013, to honor individuals and programs for their work on behalf of vulnerable individuals and families and to advance the medical-legal partnership field.
New York is the First State to Endorse Medical-Legal Partnership
The state of New York amended its Public Health Law, section 22 to allow legal entities to register with the Department of Health as βhealth-related legal services programs.β This is a first-of-its-kind bill recognizing medical-legal partnership as an important health intervention.
National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership Moves to its New Home at the George Washington University
The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services announced today that, thanks in part to funding from The Kresge Foundation and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, it is launching the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership, a project aimed at ensuring every low-income individual has access to legal care as part of comprehensive health care.
Report from American Medical Association Board of Trustees Recommends Medical-Legal Partnerships
