National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership Honored with Award from Whitman-Walker Health

The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership (NCMLP) was honored today by Whitman-Walker Health, a D.C. based community health center, with the 2014 Joel A. Toubin Memorial Award. Whitman-Walker presents the award annually to recognize outstanding advocacy on behalf of people living with HIV and the LGBT community. NCMLP was honored for its work promoting integrated health and legal teams.

The award was presented during Whitman-Walker’s annual β€œGoing the Extra Mile” event, which raises money for the health center’s in-house legal services program. Whitman-Walker was one of the first health centers to incorporate legal services as part of the care it delivers to patients, and for 28 years has provided legal care alongside medical care for people living with HIV/AIDS, and LGBT individuals and families.

Also honored with the Joel A. Toubin Memorial Award were Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., Solicitor General of the United States, and the law firm of Beveridge & Diamond.
