VA MLPs: Implementation Guidance and Suggested Measures
Description
This guide offers a framework for identifying the areas of MLP operations for programs based at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) sites that may benefit from implementation guidance. It includes potential measures for gauging MLP performance. This resource builds on the VA MLP Readiness Guide.
Since MLPs vary in scope, size, and services, the guide uses the eight core components of an MLP defined by the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership, to identify common functions and elements of an MLP that can be monitored across MLPs regardless of program variation. The implementation guidance and potential measures offered are based on conversations with teams at VA-based MLPs and legal clinics, other experts in the MLP field, and prior surveys of the MLP field. It also builds on the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnershipβs Performance Measures Handbook, which was piloted among health centers and hospitals, including one VA facility with an MLP.
