Build A Partnership
Are you interested in starting your own Medical-Legal Partnership program? This page provides preliminary information and suggested steps on how to start yan MLP in your community.
First Steps
To begin the journey of starting an MLP program, you must first become a Start-up Member of the MLP Network. Becoming a Start-up Member is free and grants you access to technical assistance, sample MLP materials, and the Starting an MLP Toolkit.
When you fill out the Start-up Member web form, you will receive the Start Your Own Medical-Legal Partnership toolkit, which contains a comprehensive discussion of the MLP model, as well as tips for finding the right partners, demonstrating impact and becoming a sustainable program. Additional resources can be found on the “Resources” page of the toolkit.
Within the Start Your Own Medical-Legal Partnership toolkit is a work plan that will help you think through the timeline and next steps for creating an MLP program.

MLP Member Responsibilities
To maintain membership in the MLP Network, each program is required to complete the annual MLP Site Survey and Snapshot. The MLP Site Survey allows the National Center to collect data from MLP programs across the country, and to gauge the impact that MLP programs are having on patients, communities and institutions. Both the MLP Site Survey and Snapshot are typically administered in January each year.
The Snapshot is a one-page document that provides programmatic information for each MLP program. This information helps the National Center keep an updated database of institutions engaging in MLP across the country.
We look forward to having you as a member of our Network! Please contact us with any questions.
MLP Online Course
The MLP Online Course is a series of reading materials and quizzes that will strengthen your understanding of MLP. It will also acquaint you with strategies for effective implementation of the MLP model in your community. You MUST complete this course to become a Start-up Member of the MLP Network. We ask new members to complete this course as we believe it will answer most of your initial questions about MLP. When you have completed the required reading and the MLP Online Course Quiz, contact the National Center to receive sample documents exclusive to Start-up Members!

Build a Partnership
Better integration of preventive medicine and pragmatic legal assistance will result in better care for individuals and a smarter deployment of our scarce health care resources. Our bill will encourage medical experts and lawyers to work together to improve the health and wellness of families and cut unnecessary spending on preventable medical conditions. This is a win-win program that can make a real difference in the lives of Hoosiers.
Senator Evan Bayh (D-IN)
