Technical Assistance & Support
The National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership is committed to providing a range of technical assistance to cultivate and support nascent and active medical-legal partnership programs We offer the following technical assistance services, among others.
Dissemination of MLP Network materials, including:
- Sample start-up documents, such as grant proposals and memoranda of understanding
- Standardized needs assessment tools
- Training materials and tools for adaptation in local communities
- Best practices in capacity and sustainability, evaluation, systemic advocacy and training and education
MLP Network members can download a variety of resources directly from the Resource Library.
Phone and e-mail support
The National Center provides phone and e-mail support to help active and developing programs effectively address programmatic challenges, such as:
- Increasing medical engagement or institutional buy-in
- Fundraising
- Expanding capacity by developing a pro bono component
- Navigating patient confidentiality and other ethical issues
Matching of potentional medical and legal partners
The National Center helps those interested in developing an MLP program find the appropriate legal or medical partner in their communities with whom to build an effective partnership.
Site visits to support local MLP programs
National Center staff conduct site visits in local communities in order to provide in-depth technical assistance to address specific programmatic challenges.
Hosting annual trainings and conferences
Each year, the National Center hosts a national conference known as the MLP Summit, where MLP practitioners from around the country come together to discuss advancements in the model and share best practices. The Summit takes place in the spring and typically draws close to 300 healthcare and legal providers, including staff from existing MLP programs and those interested in developing new MLPs.
What I love about this program is that it takes real people with real problems and provides tangible help, both legal and medical.
