The mission of Equal Justice Works is to create a just society by mobilizing the next generation of lawyers committed to equal justice. It provides leadership to ensure a sustainable pipeline of talented and trained lawyers involved in public service. Equal Justice Works provides a continuum of programs that begin with incoming law school students and extend into later careers in the profession. It provides the nation’s leading public interest law fellowship program and offers more postgraduate, full-time legal positions in public service than any other organization. Medical-Legal Partnership Projects
Equal Justice Works was an early and vigorous supporter of the medical-legal partnership model, which has impacted MLP expansion, visibility and leadership exponentially. MLP has inspired a significant number of committed public interest lawyers to establish or expand MLP’s in their communities. There are over 15 EJW and AmeriCorp Legal Fellows from the 2007 and 2008 classes focused on medical-legal partnership, with more Fellows selecting medical-legal partnership projects each year.Better integration of preventive medicine and pragmatic legal assistance will result in better care for individuals and a smarter deployment of our scarce health care resources. Our bill will encourage medical experts and lawyers to work together to improve the health and wellness of families and cut unnecessary spending on preventable medical conditions. This is a win-win program that can make a real difference in the lives of Hoosiers.
